The School Owners’ Conferences were originally launched by the JALT School Owners SIG, with the inaugural event held in Osaka in January 2018. Though modest in scale, it was a successful and well-received gathering. Building on that momentum, a second conference followed in January 2019, drawing even more attendees.
Encouraged by the positive response and aiming to improve regional accessibility, the School Owners SIG planned to expand to two events in 2020—one in Tokyo (January) and another in Nagoya (June). However, due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nagoya conference was postponed until 2022 and ultimately held online to ensure the safety of participants.
After a four-year hiatus, Independent Owners and Teachers, in cooperation with the English Teachers’ Book Service, revived the School Owners’ Conferences with a one-day, in-person event in Nagoya on June 7, 2024.
Continuing the commitment to regional accessibility, Independent Owners and Teachers will host two conferences in 2025. The 6th School Owners’ Conference will be held in Tokyo on June 22, 2025, followed by the 7th Conference in Osaka on July 13, 2025.
